Project Overview
The design of our new water treatment plant is underway. The new plant will be designed to meet modern standards and community needs. It will provide a state-of-the-art water treatment process, advance our monitoring and control systems, improve water pressure, and ensure compliance with future regulatory requirements.
CDM Smith has been diligently working to design the new plant. Construction is expected to begin in October 2025 and be completed by early 2028.
Why is This Project Important?
Our current water treatment plant is over 60 years old. As a result, our existing plant was not designed to meet the new state and federal drinking water requirements that will go into effect in the next few years.
The new plant will replace the existing conventional lime softening plant and provide enhanced treatment technologies. Investing in the design and construction of a new water treatment plant is critical. It will ensure we continue to meet or exceed state and federal requirements for drinking water. Moreover, the new plant will modernize our water infrastructure, improve water quality, and ensure a sustainable future for our community.
Next Steps
At the March 12, 2025, City Commission Meeting, the Commission agreed to:
- Order equipment with long lead time to avoid project delays.
- Begin the procurement process for the Deep Injection Wells.
- Prepare a reimbursement resolution. If approved, it will allow the City to reimburse funds spent prior to revenue bonds being issued.
