The City of Delray Beach's drinking water complies with all requirements of the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Act.
The water treatment plant uses a process known as "lime softening" to treat raw water prior to distribution to our customers. Upon arrival to the plant, the raw water is first aerated to remove natural gases. The water is then blended with lime in settling tanks (clarifiers) for softening and color and iron removal. After the blending process, the water is then filtered and disinfected to meet the feeral and state drinking water standards.
Environmental Compliance
The Compliance Division monitors Water Quality Compliance with state and federal standards through sampling, testing, and reporting of test results to regulatory agencies. The Compliance Laboratory Quality Assurance Program ensures that collection and testing is performed as per the National Environmental Laboratory Association Conference's (NELAC) and the Florida Department of Health's most recent standards.
