What Is Vision Zero?
Vision Zero is a safety approach used by cities across the country and around the world.
It is based on a simple idea: Traffic deaths and serious injuries are preventable.
Vision Zero means:
- Streets should be designed to keep people safe
- People make mistakes, and streets should allow for that
- Safety is more important than speed or convenience
- Everyone deserves to travel safely
This includes:
- People walking
- People biking
- People driving
- People using wheelchairs or mobility devices
- People using public transportation
City Commitment to Vision Zero
The Delray Beach City Commission has already shown its support for safer streets.
The City adopted a Vision Zero Resolution in 2022, which means:
- The City officially supports the goal of zero traffic deaths
- Safety is a top priority in transportation decisions
- City departments will work together to improve street safety
This Action Plan builds on the City’s ongoing work to make streets safer for all.
What Is the Vision Zero Action Plan?
The Vision Zero Action Plan is a guide for future safety improvements.
The plan will help the City:
- Understand where and why serious crashes happen
- Focus on the streets and areas with the highest risk
- Set clear safety goals
- Choose actions that can save lives
- Track progress over time
The Action Plan will be used to guide:
- Street design projects
- Policy decisions
- Funding requests
- Safety programs and education
Federal Support: Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A)
This project is funded by the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The SS4A program helps cities:
- Plan for safer streets
- Reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries
- Use a “Safe System” approach to safety
This funding helps Delray Beach plan smarter and act faster to improve safety.
