Silt fences are temporary barriers used during construction to prevent sediment runoff.

Required when:

  • Soil is disturbed near storm drains, water bodies, or slopes.
  • Projects exceed 1 acre or are part of a larger development.
  • Construction occurs in areas with loose or erodible soils.

Best practices:

  • Install fences downhill from disturbed areas.
  • Inspect regularly and remove accumulated sediment.
  • Remove fences after stabilization is complete.
