The Position

The City of Delray Beach is implementing a new firefighter work schedule designed to strike a healthy balance between the challenges of the fire and emergency services industry and the need for adequate rest and recovery.   Starting on October 1, 2025, the City of Delray Beach will lead the industry in implementing a 42-hour workweek, consisting of 24 hours on duty and 72 hours off duty, for firefighters assigned to Emergency Operations.  As a result of this forward-leaning, employee-centric initiative, the Fire Rescue Department is recruiting firefighters to fill open positions for a fourth shift, with an anticipated hire date of August 25, 2025.

Eligibility:

·      Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

·      Be a non-use of tobacco products for at least twelve (12) months before application and remain tobacco-free for the duration of employment.

·      Current CPAT/PAT no more than twelve (12) months before application

·      State of Florida Paramedic Certification or National Registry

·      Individuals certified as Emergency Medical Technicians in their last semester of Paramedic training are encouraged to apply.

·      State of Florida Firefighter II Certificate of Compliance

·      State of Florida Class E Driver’s License

·      State of Florida Bureau of EMS recognized Emergency Vehicle Operator Course

Hiring Process:

·      Interview Board and EMS Testing Scenarios: June 23 through June 27, 2025

·      Fire Chief Interviews: July 7 through July 10, 2025

·      Conditional Job Offers extended: July 14, 2025

·      Background, Psychological, and Medical Physicals, Drug Screening, and Polygraphs: July 14 through August 8, 2025

·      First Day of Recruit Training: August 25, 2025
