Take a Class with Carl

Carl Stoveland has been an artist his whole life.  While growing up, his father worked at a photo lab in NYC making dye transfer prints for museums and ad agencies, and his mother was doing landscape painting.  His first memories are watching the magic in his father’s darkroom or watching his mother painting in her studio. Carl has been working as a photographer and in the photo industry since high school. He branched out into painting, working in watercolor since 2001, adding acrylics, oil, gouache, and casein to his repertoire over the years. His paintings are strongly influenced by his photography, painting places he has travelled to and photographed, he was an artist in residence at Dry Tortugas National Park in 2020.
