Post Date:08/25/2025 3:10 PM

Delray Beach, FL – The City of Delray Beach and the police union have reached a tentative agreement on the terms of a new Delray Beach Police Department labor contract, marking a collaborative step forward in supporting the department’s officers and public safety.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • Three-Year Wage Agreement: The city and police union reached an amicable agreement on wages for officers, sergeants, and lieutenants over the next three years. The agreement ensures competitive pay with surrounding agencies and supports recruitment and retention of officers.
  • Extended DROP Payment: The Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) window will extend from five years to eight years, incentivizing senior officers to remain on the force while continuing to contribute to their retirement benefits.
  • Management Rights – Fitness for Duty: The contract clarifies the city’s ability to request psychological evaluations when concerns arise about an officer’s fitness for duty.
  • Post-Crash Drug and Alcohol Testing: Language regarding drug and alcohol testing following accidents has been clarified to ensure consistent enforcement.

Delray Beach City Manager Terrence Moore said, "August 21, 2025, marks a significant milestone for Delray Beach, our police department, and the community. After a thorough and collaborative process, all parties reached a fair and effective agreement—demonstrating the dedication and professionalism of everyone involved."

Delray Beach Police Chief Darrell Hunter added, "I want to thank our Mayor, City Commissioners, City Manager, City Attorney, Human Resources, and union leadership for their collaboration. This agreement reflects our shared commitment to supporting the men and women of the Delray Beach Police Department and to providing the highest level of service to our community."
