The City of Delray Beach will conduct routine chlorine maintenance to the City’s water distribution system from Sunday, July 10, 2022, through Saturday, July 30, 2022. Chlorine maintenance is a temporary process that uses chlorine in place of combined chlorine, or chloramine, throughout the City’s water system to help remove biofilms from inside the distribution pipes.
“Routine chlorine maintenance is a preventative measure that takes place approximately every six months, said Hassan Hadjimiry, the City’s Utilities Director. “Chlorine is the most common disinfectant for water distribution systems.”
While many will not notice any change to their tap water, some may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor during the maintenance period. Those who use a home dialysis machine, own a home aquarium, or manage stores and restaurants with fish and shellfish tanks should seek professional advice for removing chlorine residuals from tap water.
