PUBLIC NOTICE TO WATER SYSTEM CUSTOMERS

Post Date:09/16/2019 4:26 PM

As a preventive measure to ensure that the City's drinking water remains safe and compliant with all regulatory water quality requirements, the City began enhanced disinfection of water distribution lines on Monday, September 16, 2019. Enhanced disinfection will continue through Friday, September 27, 2019.

Disinfection is a routine preventive maintenance procedure for the drinking water system wherein free chlorine is used as the primary disinfectant. Water customers may notice an increased chlorine odor or taste in their tap water. This is a normal occurrence and will cause no adverse health effects.

During this time period, customers with special needs (i.e. dialysis) should be aware of potential problems with their equipment and systems. Owners of tropical fish aquariums and holding tanks for fish and shellfish should be aware that this temporary change in our disinfection process may be harmful to aquatic life if not properly addressed. Customers are advised to seek professional advice regarding the method of removing free chlorine residuals. Effects will start to diminish on September 27, when enhanced disinfection is completed.

During the enhanced disinfection period the city will flush fire hydrants. If you notice flushing activities in your immediate area, it is recommended that you refrain from using laundry machines until activities have ceased.

For additional information, please contact the Water/Sewer Network Division at (561) 243-7312 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or visit www.delraybeachfl.gov.
