Delray Beach Swimming Advisory Lifted

New Water Quality Sample Confirms it is Safe to Swim

Post Date:01/25/2019 5:32 PM

New test results released today show bacteria counts are back within the limits for safe swimming in the municipal beach. The swimming advisory has been lifted.

The Florida Department of Health Palm Beach County has confirmed Delray Beach’s bacteria levels are “Satisfactory” with 10 colonies per 100 milliliters of marine water.

“We believe the original [poor water quality] test result was caused by recent rain and rough surf. Testing that is immediately done after rainfall, generally show temporary elevated bacteria levels. It’s likely the turbulent water also included particles from the bottom of the ocean,” says Delray Beach Ocean Rescue Division Chief Phil Wotton. “Our water quality is normally satisfactory.”

Yellow flags are posted indicating it is safe to swim, however, due to choppy winds, beach goers should use caution while in the water.
